MAHAKALA PROTECTOR DEITY
Mahakala (Black Coat) is one of the most important and popular protectors within the traditions of Tibetan Buddhism and according to this tradition, it is the areada emanation of Avalokiteshvara, the Buddha of infinite compassion.
Its violent representation (areada) symbolizes the energy that helps to dissolve all kinds of obstacles and negativities that impede the spiritual path. These factors can be external or internal conditioning factors, such as fear, hatred, pride or envy.
In the full body illustrations of Mahakala he is depicted holding in his left hand a skull containing the blood of the ego and in his right hand he wields a dagger, which destroys all impediments. Around his neck he wears a garland of severed heads symbolizing his conquest of all obstacles and neuroses that destroy the world.
